Recorded at the Virtual TechEd Stage, Carl and Richard welcome Stephen Forte, Kent Alstad, Rob Howard, and Steve Smith for a lively discussion around ASP.NET Scalability issues.


Stephen Forte

Stephen Forte a managing partner at Fresco Capital and the co-founder and accelerator director of the Laudato Si’ Challenge, inspired by Pope Francis. Prior he was the Chief Strategy Officer of Telerik, a leading vendor of developer and team productivity tools (acquired by Progress Software.) Stephen was the founder of Mach5, a Silicon Valley-based startup accelerator and co-founder of AcceleratorHK, Hong Kong’s first startup accelerator. Stephen has an MBA from the City University of New York and did post-grad work at the London School of Economics. An avid mountain climber, Stephen leads a trek in the Mt. Everest region every fall to raise money for charity. After several years as an ex-pat in Hong Kong, Stephen now lives in Silicon Valley with his wife and daughter. @worksonmypc

Kent Alstad

Kent Alstad is principle or contributing author on all of Strangeloop's pending patents. Before helping create Strangeloop, he served as CTO at IronPoint Technology. Kent also founded, Eclipse Software, a Microsoft Certified Solution Provider, that he sold to Discovery Software in 2001. In more than 20 years of professional development experience, Kent has served as architect and lead developer for successful production solutions with The Active Network, ADP, Lucent, Microsoft, and NCS. "Port View", an application Kent architected for the Port of Vancouver, was honoured as "Best Administrative System" at the 1996 Windows World Open Competition. Kent holds a bachelor of science in psychology from the University of Calgary.

Rob Howard

Prior to founding telligentsystems Rob was employed by the Microsoft Corporation where he was a member of the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0 team; specifically contributing to ASP.NET. He has presented at many software developer conferences including: Microsoft PDC and TechEd; Borland's BorCon; ASP.NET Connections; and VSLive! and is consistently rated a top presenter. Rob is also the author of several books, most recently A Preview of ASP.NET 2.0 (Addison-Wesley); ASP.NET Coding Strategies with the ASP.NET Team (Microsoft Press). Rob has a BBA from Baylor University.

Steven Smith

Steve Smith (@ardalis) is an entrepreneur and software developer with a passion for building quality software as effectively as possible. He provides mentoring and training workshops for teams with the desire to improve. Steve has been recognized as a Microsoft MVP for over 10 consecutive years and is a frequent speaker at software developer conferences and events.
