Carl and Mark Fly Solo!
This week Carl and Mark got to do a show they've been waiting for a long time to do. The conversation touches on the new application blocks (bluebricks - from the MS Patterns and Practices Group), string handling, using the BitConverter class for fast file i/o, serialization, XMLDataDocuments and XSLT, inheritance, instrumentation, the ASP.NET Cache object, and some great stories from the trenches, especially Mark's great training stories which always contain an array of shady characters and companies. All in all, its an hour well spent for .NET developers

Mark Dunn
Mark has over 20 years of experience in the disciplines of software engineering, database administration, and project management. Software that Mark developed for the radio industry is still in use today. He was a lead developer on the team that created Tapscan, a well-known Arbritron ratings analysis package that has dominated that industry for many years.
Microsoft recently honored Mark by awarding him MVP status for his contributions to the Visual Studio .NET community. Mark also co-founded .NET Rocks!, an Internet radio program for .NET developers recognized in over 80 countries and now hosted by Microsoft on the MSDN site.
Mark is a Microsoft Certified Trainer, Application Developer, Solution Developer for .NET, and Database Administrator.
Carl Franklin
Carl Franklin is a Microsoft MVP for Sensors and Devices, co-host of .NET Rocks! - the longest running .NET podcast (2002), and Executive VP of App vNext. Carl has been a leader in the .NET community since the very beginning with hands-on training, application development and consulting, and community evangelism.
Carl is also an accomplished musician and audio/video producer. In 1999 he started Pwop Studios, a full-service audio and video post production studio in New London, CT, where Carl records and produces the podcasts as well as music and video projects - both for The Franklin Brothers Band and the public. In 2013, Carl released his first solo album, Been a While, which features a tune with legendary jazz/blues guitarist John Scofield on guitar, as well as an incredible group of musicians local to New London, CT.
In 1994, Carl and friend Gary Wisniewski started Carl and Gary's Visual Basic Home Page, the first non-Microsoft VB website on the Internet. He wrote two books on Internet Programming in Visual Basic for John Wiley and Sons and taught VB6, VB.NET and ASP.NET development onsite at many Fortune 500 companies and also at his training facilities in CT.
